Developed by Supercell, the game borrows heavily from the insanely successful Clash of Clans, with differences in the way troops are trained, attack and defense strategies and other multiplayer game tactics. If they can score another hit with Clash Royale, they'll further secure their spot as the kings of mobile.Clash Royale is an immensely popular game. I'm always a fan of Supercell, and they've proven themselves able to continually update and improve Clash of Clans. Games like this take time to really suss out, both from a player point of view and a revenue point of view - like an MMO, the real test comes a year or so in. That's all for now, because I've yet to spend enough time with this game to render much of a judgment about quality. That's very important for any mobile game maker looking to long term success (though King and Activision might argue otherwise). Boom Beach, while it had some different mechanics, was still very much in the mold of Clash of Clans, where Clash Royale is something quite different. Supercell has proven that it can make iterative games, and not just clones. From the small amount I've seen so far, it's a huge step for the company, and not just because it always helps to have another hit game. It's been garnering excellent reviews across the blogosphere, even from sources that aren't usually as excited about games that rely solely on microtransactions for revenue. Clash Royale could best be described as one on one competitive tower defense, losing some of the base building mechanics that define Supercell's other titles like Clash of Clans and Boom Beach.
